Well, today is a Saturday and yes, Los Gauchos Outfitters is open. Remember we are duck hunters and Saturday is another good day for duck hunting. We are in the office though today since the Uruguay and Argentina duck hunting season is over and the U.S. duck hunting season has not yet opened. Soooo, we prep for the duck hunting seasons and watch some good U.T. football.

Uh oh, we hope. While sometimes U.T. does not play like they should or do they have a good day on the football field, Los Gauchos Uruguay duck hunting has a great record and I think we are the National Champions for Uruguay Duck Hunting. No question.

Our M.V.P is the owner and long time duck hunter, George Criddle. He has spent countless seasons and time in Uruguay on every inch of Uruguay and found some of the best Uruguay duck hunting areas. Well, here we are the beginning of September. Dove season has started in the USA and don't forget in Uruguay and Argentina the doves are available year round so no big starting day for dove season in Uruguay or Argentina. School has started back...we wait (some of us..) for cooler weather and college football every weekend.

Los Gauchos is proud to have a weekend or 2 before pheasant hunting in South Dakota to sit back and watch the U.T. Longhorns take on anyone and win. Los Gauchos Outfitters is also busy booking reservations for the 2010 duck hunting season in Uruguay. We had a fantastic 2009 season, lots of ducks, professional guides, and great hosts, food, service and times in Uruguay.

Hunting .....Uruguay - Gaucho Style

If you guessed Uruguay as my choice for hunting (duck, dove and Perdiz), you're right on.  There are several reasons most important is the volume and consistent good hunting experiences in Uruguay.  As more and more people look at international travel with disdain, I want to ease your mind and give you some good reasons why you should look at Uruguay and understand why it is just about as easy and cost just about the same to hunt in Uruguay as it does in the far reaches of the Dakotas.

First, to get to Uruguay.  The main international airport in Montevideo, Uruguay is serviced by American Airlines.  The American Advantage program is popular and if you need to add to your mile base of need a way to use your million miles, plan on the flight from Miami to Montevideo.  Miami? You say, wait, I'm from Texas and we fly out of DFW....of course using American, based there and best there.  Well, hang on.  Miami is currently the only city that has a direct flight to Montevideo, Uruguay.  The 767 plane departs at 11:10 PM in the evening, so plenty of time to get to Miami.  And hey, add some Florida fishing or beach time in Miami before your Uruguay hunt.  Just a suggestion.

You arrive into Montevideo and it is easy to clear customs and prepare to hit the fields the afternoon of arrival.  The time difference is only one hour ahead of the East Coast.

Perdiz hunting is a low volume but truly a great experience.  The work of the dogs and seeing the professional Uruguay hunting guides and then testing your shooting skills with the Perdiz makes for a great Upland hunt.

Uruguay has great cuisine and we know you've heard of wine in South America...well, Uruguay is full of vineyards and most of the wine stays in Uruguay, so enjoy the excellent wine of Uruguay.

Now, for the heavy hitting action.  DOVES!  You just have to book your flight to Uruguay to see the greatness of Uruguay dove hunting.  Unbelievable.  I'm short of words (!)  Just unbelievable.

The people of Uruguay are very welcoming as Uruguay has high literacy and many Uruguayans learn English in school and love to communicate with visitors in English as well as teach you some necessary Spanish.  

Mas cartuchos!  Meaning MORE SHELLS!  Yes, you will need for the Uruguay dove hunting and duck hunting.  

I hope this gets you excited as I love hunting in Uruguay and continue to go back and show bird hunters what hunting is about...birds, no limits, and ease of getting to the duck hunting blind or dove hunting field.
