Duck Hunting..is it a job or a passion?

I often find myself wondering, what have I gotten myself into?  Especially about this time during duck hunting season in Argentina and Uruguay.

After growing up in Texas and spending many memorable moments in the front seat of a red FORD pick-up on the A-Bar Ranch I gained much needed knowledge. As the youngest and only girl in my Popo's circle of grandchildren, I thought I could herd cattle and knew all there was to know about hunting and fishing.  Well, welcome to South America, the 21st century new era of duck hunters.

Now, it can be like herding cats in the rain.   But, having the privilege of reaching Uruguay and being a part of the duck hunting season down there, it is pure excitement.

Uruguay duck hunting is like the "good ole days" and with ducks that act like they went to OU (ahem, they come right into the decoys, no educated ducks here in Uruguay...) and fully baited fields, the duck hunting is nothing but outstanding.

So as I herd the troops and assist with getting all the gear , all the arrival information, and most importantly a big smile showing my enthusiasm for this sport, let the duck hunting season begin in Uruguay.

Have a good hunt, be safe, and enjoy the sport-and time in Uruguay, life is too short to worry about a flight delay or a missed email.  The duck hunting in Uruguay will provide a memory you will never forget.

And as I often have to remember, "the perils of duck hunting are great--especially for the duck" (Walter Cronkite).

Uruguay Dove Hunt with Marcus Luttrell and George Criddle of Los Gauchos Outfitters

Sports Business Directory - BTS Local

Wow.

Only word or thought that I can come across right now. What a great day, Memorial Day, to have Petty Officer First Class Marcus Luttrell join owner/outfitter George W. Criddle of Los Gauchos Outfitters for some dove, duck and Perdiz hunting in Colonia, Uruguay.

While this blog is focused on the hunting and fishing adventures that Los Gauchos shares with other bird hunters and anglers, today the focus is different.

A extension of gratitude for the service of Luttrell and the men and women who give and gave so much so that we can enjoy freedom daily.

Los Gauchos wants to remember and honor those who have done their duty to protect our freedom, as God allowed them to see that duty.

Los Gauchos is honored to have such a hero arrive in Buenos Aires and travel to Colonia for some Uruguay bird hunting with George W. Criddle. Marcus Luttrell's book, Lone Survivor, was a New York Times bestseller and describes the detail of surviving after his Seal team was killed.

Abraham Lincoln says it best: "Gold is good in its place; but living, brave, patriotic men, are better than gold."

To all the military men/women, Los Gauchos thanks you and are grateful for your service and strength.

And watch the Versus Channel for the Wild and Raw series with co-hosts Marcus Luttrell and Scott Robertson as they take on Uruguay wingshooting along with George W. Criddle and Los Gauchos Outfitters. Take 'em!

Colonia doves and Uruguay ducks.....good week.

Los Gauchos Outfitters week of duck hunting in Uruguay has been GREAT!  Over 130 ducks per day.  What's more is this group is made up of family and friends, so to enjoy the best duck hunting in South America in May with good friends and family is priceless!

Now, onto Colonia, Uruguay where the doves are flying high and low and just keep coming.  The dove volume is massive and the dove hunters enjoy the volume, the shooting, and the fun of being in Colonia.  This is an historic town that is welcoming fall and winter, so the weather is great, the number of doves is unbelievable, and the food/wine and service is outstanding.

Enjoy the pictures that will be coming soon of the 2009 Los Gauchos Uruguay Duck Hunting season and the 2009 Los Gauchos DOVE and PERDIZ hunting season...and for those who know Los Gauchos...the dogs will have their time in the spotlight, no doubt.

Uruguay Hunting...enjoy the best of South America

Uruguay! The little unknown country that is neighbor to Argentina and Brazil is a gem in the world of bird hunting. High volume doves and high volume ducks make up this small country (about the size of Oklahoma). I just got back from visiting Los Gauchos Outfitters and their new lodge in Colonia and let me tell you, AMAZING. While bad news seems to be the highlight on tv these days, in Colonia, Uruguay you will step back in time and have to adjust to RELAXATION with no traffic, not a lot of technical gadgets and people. The hotel was like picture I have seen of the European countryside and the people were so nice and accomodating.

Now for the Uruguay dove hunting ---do I need to mention numbers. How about doves, doves, doves, doves...multiply this by 1000. This is one afternoon of dove hunting in Colonia, Uruguay.

I want to go back since Uruguay Perdiz hunting just started May 1st. Oh, and since I am surrounded by Texas duck hunters, Uruguay duck hunting season just opened and that seems to be the discussions around here: Uruguay duck hunting and how soon can we get on American Airlines flight 989 for Montevideo and out in the duck blind the same afternoon?

Uruguay hunting....more stories and images of the outstanding season coming soon.
